This wasn't what I was expecting or hoping for but I believe that is because I didn't look very far into what this book was about before plunging in. No worries if you're interested in what pagan holidays are or how the year divides up (differently than our trad year) this is a good read for you.

A review of the the witches year. I loved the last chapters on creating a witches year that reflects the place you live in. Traditional witches year reflect british nature cycles and I love the idea of connecting to the seasons of your location.

This book was an introduction into the world of Wicca for me. I don’t know anything beyond this book. I feel like it is an easy stepping stone. Very general and open information on basic Wiccan and Pagan beliefs. With a very strong push to be intuitive with yourself and your practice.

I could leave the beginning of this book in a ditch somewhere. It started out well, the ideas weren't new but needed for new practitioners. And then she started talking about gate keeping and plastic witches and about mainstream witchcraft. Insert eye roll here. I just skipped over those bits but don't forget to educate yourself on cultural appropriation. The rest of the book was great and informative. It was exactly what I was looking for.

i am actually really disappointed with this book. it was highly recommended, but i only found little sections of it that were unique. all the others felt like fillers or very general information that you can easily look up on other book compilations.
the wheel of the year explanations did not even begin until 91 pages in which makes the first 1/3 of the book seem rather redundant to me as they were discussing more about general ideas about beginning to practice when the book was marketed about personalising your wheel of the year.
another issue that irked me was the way that the book executed and had its references. there was a lot of vague references that were not cited or numbered for easier identification which made the overall writing seem sloppy and unedited. for example the author wrote: “there are a number of scientists who believe that due to the Milankovitch cycles….” But which scientists? 8 would like to know so I could cross references and understand whether or not they are reliable.
i also found that that the references of other titles of the book choppy, i believe that the writing would have benefited if there was an index and a notes pages.
there was also an incredible amount of contradictions both of the author’s opinions and also the references that they have used.
my copy’s book cover also just unstuck itself?? which was confusing and bizarre enough so i was just reading it without a cover
