Topical re-read to celebrate my departure for Spain. Hemingway sure did love Spanish wine and bullfights.

"Perhaps as you went along you did learn something. I did not care what it was all about. All I wanted to know was how to live in it. Maybe if you found out how to live in it you learned from that what it was all about."

This was my introduction to Hemingway and personally I don’t love his style. The book had perfectly adequate storytelling but the stripped back nature was a little jarring for me.

I struggled through the first part, but once they got to Spain I thoroughly enjoyed it. I can't explain exactly why (maybe after I process it a bit), but it just really worked for me.

I did not like any part of this book. There is not plot and the characters are incredibly unlikable. This novel was just not good. I would only recommend this book to someone if they like dry, choppy writing that fails to keep the reader interested.
