A romcom that ultimately served my intended goal of being a fun transition book between other series I’m reading…but main character Nadia [29-turning-30yo] was stressful at times. This ain’t rock my world so 3 stars, but it wasn’t bad.
The book started out with her deciding to let go of her 13 year long relationship—5 of which she’s been engaged for—with Brandon, serial cheater….that alone is worth pause. The book alternates POVs from Nadia to Marcos (former college situationship, present-day wedding venue owner) while she plans a party anyways since the wedding is 30 days away. Throughout, she’s standing up for herself/her decisions to family, but also processing her shitty relationship as she collects her life. I, personally, just hate struggle love, so there being “several times” that he cheated is just crazy and a mood killer lmao but she gets her second chance at love with Marcos if they can get out each other’s way.

I listened to a little more than half and that’s all I can take. I loved Furia and was excited to read this one, but it is sooo boring. I read another review that says it’s more women’s fiction than contemporary romance, which is about right for as much as I’ve read.

Started off great, but then just fizzled out for me. I had to skip entire paragraphs just to keep going. It was meh. Also, I don't understand the author's obsession with mate.

This was super cute don’t get me wrong but it wasn’t really a romance book and reads more like a YA with older characters. The romance fell flat and there wasn’t actually any scenes that developed the relationship past them reconnecting. If you’re picking this up expecting an epic second chance romance adjust that expectation. What you will find is a women finding her independence again while navigating betrayal, family and society expectations, multiple generations of Latino women supporting and coming together. You’ll find a mmc struggling to find his footing in his family and grappling with the past version of himself, while discovering a second chance at a future he never imagined he would want. This book is worth the read but not if you’re in it for the romance. There are no open door scene and even the sexual tension was lacking from the couples dynamic.

I have loved Furia and Twice a Quinceañera by Yamile Saied Mendez and was very excited for Love of My Lives, especially because of the setting. However, reading this felt off. The main character seemed young and the insta-love was not for me. I really loved the male main character however. I will continue to look for this author’s work in the future despite my disappointment in this particular work.

Twice a Quinceañera was such a joy to read! Filled with self discovery, friendship, second chances, family, celebration and love it was a win for me! I really enjoyed how developed every character was/how well we got to know them as well as the details and background of the locations mentioned throughout. All in all a super fun and quick read with a unique plot!
