genya... I love you but I have SO MANY questions. I've lost sleep trying to figure out how his abilities work, which is concerning to say the least, but it doesn't matter because he'll always be one of my favourite kny characters. I'd still like an explanation though because WHAT.

while I did say in my review of the previous volume that the swordsmith village arc was my least favourite kny arc, I've got to give this volume credit where it's due. I found the art in this volume to be a lot better than that of previous instalments, with the action sequences being a lot easier to follow (which is saying a lot since I struggle with following action sequences in manga and graphic novels in general) and it being overall pretty well-paced.

however, what's stopping this volume from having a full 4-star rating from me is how genya's backstory was revealed. while I don't have any issues with his backstory in and of itself (actually, I do, because it's emotionally devastating), the timing at which it was revealed killed the pacing of the scene for me. genya is literally seconds away from being injured and they take that as an opportunity to reveal his entire backstory and motivation, and it takes you out of the scene. this was a much bigger issue in the anime, since it went on for longer and made me even forget what was happening in the present, but it still works just as poorly in the manga.
