while I did say in my review of the previous volume that the swordsmith village arc was my least favourite kny arc, I've got to give this volume credit where it's due. I found the art in this volume to be a lot better than that of previous instalments, with the action sequences being a lot easier to follow (which is saying a lot since I struggle with following action sequences in manga and graphic novels in general) and it being overall pretty well-paced.
however, what's stopping this volume from having a full 4-star rating from me is how genya's backstory was revealed. while I don't have any issues with his backstory in and of itself (actually, I do, because it's emotionally devastating), the timing at which it was revealed killed the pacing of the scene for me. genya is literally seconds away from being injured and they take that as an opportunity to reveal his entire backstory and motivation, and it takes you out of the scene. this was a much bigger issue in the anime, since it went on for longer and made me even forget what was happening in the present, but it still works just as poorly in the manga.

I am glad to have returned to Demon Slayer after a bit of a break. I am doing some refreshing and I have to say that I love the inclusion of Genya Shinazugawa. He is such a great character from a horribly traumatic past, and is dealing with living in the shadow of his older brother who is the current Wind Pillar. It is also fucking sick to see a guy running around and fighting with a sword and a goddamn double-barreled shotgun. I also thought that the demon transformation was really fucking cool to see, as I didn't expect it. The character shading of being completely ignored by an older, more esteemed sibling really adds some depth to Genya's character that I hope that they continue to build upon.
The Upper Rank Four Demon Hantengu and Upper Rank Five- Gyokko are extremely imposing because of the way in which they divide and conquer. Gyokko's sadism is fucking terrifying, and it is something that truly gives the distinction between humans and demons.
The action scenes are fucking awesome in this, very vivid and fluid. I love reading this stuff, man. One thing that I appreciate is that Nezuko (goated) is as much a main character as Tanjiro. Where in other anime and manga she would be played as a damsel in distress, in this one she fucks people up and gets fucked up. When she enters the full demon mode, that is so goddamn cool. I also like that Tanjiro's growth as a Demon Hunter is continuously growing and illustrated amazingly.
