Mystery romance. A couple enters a therapists office searching for help to deal with the wife’s infidelity. The therapist recently lost her license due to unorthodox methods, but is confident she can fix the golden couple with her 10 step program. Kind of a brainless read, but couldn’t put it down because I had to figure out the ending, which turned out to be the best part of the book 5/10

I feel like if I think about this book too long, my review will be lower, but because I stayed up way too late to finish it, I’m giving it four stars.

This is a slow simmering suspense novel about a rogue therapist and her new clients, the “perfect” couple, who are grappling with a recent betrayal.

It definitely kept me turning pages, but to be honest the twist wasn’t as shocking as I was hoping for. There are lots of breadcrumbs along the way pointing to this outcome, which is both satisfying and a little deflating if you’re hoping for a truly surprise twist.

I would’ve loved some deeper reflections on the ethics of the “therapist.” After all, there’s a reason those ethical guidelines are in place to begin with. But there was no real grappling with the pros/cons or consequences of working outside the lines.

This is the first book by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen, and it  probably won't be my last.

Greer and Sarah know how to write a story that grabs your attention from the very beginning and they keep your attention until the end. I was pulled into the story and found myself wanting to read more to peel back the next part of the mystery. They kept me guessing as to how everyone was involved. And at the end of the story they wrap it up nicely with a bow.

Overall it was a good read and I felt satisfied with the ending. The only reason it isn't a 5 star is because I don't feel it is a book of the year for me.

DNF

i seem to be dnf-ing a lot of books lately which is very surprising for me. maybe this was my unspoken new years' resolution? (LOL) i couldn't really get into this book past the first thirty pages mostly because the choice of POVs was... something. I think it also came from two authors writing the same book which is always a gamble but having one POV in the first person and the other POV in the third person, while i'm sure was done for some stylistic reason was jarring enough to pull my focus away from the book entirely.
