Dnfed a third of the way through.
I wasn’t hating it but I was bored and could tell I wasn’t gonna like it by the end.
Some things that bothered me:
(Mild spoilers)
- Myrra as a character. She manipulated a guy who was in love with her purely for her own gain, even leaving the baby in an alley to go have sex with him.
- The writing feels too YA. I’m confused about how old Jake and Sem were, as Jake was treated like a 14 year old by his dad and Sem acted like a moody teen and was described as having ‘nervous adolescent energy’. Creepy when you know Myrra is 25…
- It’s overwritten imo. If you like the characters you might not mind it going off on tangents or flashbacks about their past, but I found it boring. It also felt a bit repetitive with Myrra’s intrusive thoughts, but then again as someone who often has intrusive thoughts that is just kind of what they’re like. Annoying to read though.
- Tobias immediately defending and siding with Myrra on very little basis. And his quick developing feelings for her, again for no real reason.
- The science isn’t well explained and I’m pretty sure there’s no way a ship like this could exist or work.

The main character has a lot of intrusive thoughts about death and body horror. In one scene she cuts a hand off a corpse. She also manipulated someone she was in a relationship with.samara's review
