I don’t think I’ve ever read something like this. Was definitely not expecting them to get into intra-community competing needs right off the bat.

Is that... an actual examination of gender and the gender binary in MY MANGA? It’s more likely than you think.

Mogumo is nonbinary, but mistaken for an “otokonoko,” a boy who dresses as a girl for some reason (likes drag/cosplay, likes cute clothes, can be out as having a boyfriend without worry, to be trans in a more culturally acceptable way, etc.). Tetsu, a classmate, assumes that, if Mogumo wants friends, then working at his trans sister’s otokonoko maid cafe will help. Tetsu knows how trans people can be mistreated and alienated, but he doesn’t quite get what nonbinary means, and neither do the other maids. Despite misunderstandings, this maid cafe, Question, and everyone there may be those most likely to understand what nonbinary means.

I don’t think this is Own Voices at all, but the author actually put a lot of thought into this. Like a lot more than some things I have seen. Please read this!!

5* Highly recommended!!

Warnings for transphobia/homophobia, misgendering, brief mentions of gender-related body dysmorphia
