Definitely one of my favorite Stephen King’s! Terrifying and propulsive and crazy. So perfectly written, it keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time as it builds and builds. This will be the one I recommend to anyone curious about his books!

Wow. What a book man.

Oddly enough, I have never read a Stephen King book before, and I had heard that Misery is one of his best and a good place to start, and now I'm kicking myself for not reading this wayyyy sooner.

This story is brilliant. I had a general idea what it was about because I saw the movie a million years ago (long ago enough for me not to remember it that well), but everything about this is so good. Sometimes you read a thriller (and I hesitate to call this a thriller, but I guess that's what it is) and it's really all about some twist towards the end or something. Often thrillers are all about plot and not often invested in characters.

But Misery manages to not only be a page-turner but an exceptionally well-written page-turner with two really well-written characters. Annie Wilkes is an all-time great villain, just an absolutely insane character who had a few moments that left me eyes wide staring at the page going "oh jesus christ what."

And the style, I love King's style in this. I don't mind if a book is a good story without being especially elegant in its prose or style, but King adds in all these little flourishes that are so fun (so vivid!) and do *such* a good job of showing the decaying mental state of Paul.

Just an absolutely brilliant book, this is definitely going onto my list of all-timers. I loved everything about this and now clearly need to start diving into more of King's work.
