i really liked this book, but i think there were too many characters and so the storyline kind of jumped all over the place and i got lost at times. it's probably because i listened to it as an audiobook, but i normally dont have that issue. I love the way Jewell peels back the story layer by layer and we find out the truth of what happens at the very end. I thinks it is a really interesting way to tell these kinds of stories.

Lisa Jewell has quickly become on of my favorite authors. This was my second books by Jewell, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! While I felt the first 30% of the book lagged, I was flipping pages so fast from that point onward. I love Tallulah and felt so connected to her story.

However, in the end, I did feel like I wanted a little bit more. I wanted more from the night the couple disappeared. It felt quite obvious where the plot was going and I hoped there would be a bigger twist than what I had accurately predicated. I wish the epilogue was a time jump from Tallulah’s perspective vs. a more minor character’s involvement with the plot. And I wish that Sophie more than just a plot device. I wish her story was grittier and more flushed out— not just a means to revealing the mystery.

I think this book could’ve been stronger in so many ways. But I also think I am biased, because my first Lisa Jewell read (“None of This is True”) was so well-executed that I had high expectations for this story. In the end, it turned out to be your average thriller. Very entertaining but predictable. Good not excellent.
