I enjoy this book, but it isn’t the best writing.

DNF 78 pages. Don't like the writing. There is more telling than showing and I'm bored because of it.

Re-read. I read this book when it first was published back in the early 2000s and loved it, and have read every book in the series since then. Oof. This first book is an aging well, is it? I was going to give it two and a half stars, but because I'm sometimes miss living in Cincinnati and enjoyed the descriptions about living in Southern Ohio, it gets 3*.

If you like some Janet Evanovich but wish it had more vampires, pixies, and witches, this is for you. Rachel Morgan is obviously just beginning her journey (yes, this book is one you could just tell the author KNEW would be a series) but she's doing it with Ivy, the prickly vampire who wants to be her.....friend? And Jenks, the hard working pixie with opinions, a terrific wife, and kids coming out of his ears.
The downside to this is that the world building wasn't quite perfect, but if you want to know why bio drugs are so bad, why demons aren't around any more, or what the problem is with tomatoes, you're going to have to read all the other books in the series (which will hopefully have more information on those aspects, because they were really far more interesting that some other aspects of the story.).
In short, fun, dragged at times, but potential.

I will keep the rating because I really liked the book when I first read it. Second time around wasn't as great, but the plan is to read the whole series.
As I have read 6 or 7 of them, it was interesting to see how much character development has occurred.

Rereading my all time fave series. I first read this between 2006-2008 and love it just as much now as I did then!

I have had this series on my to be listened to for a long time now. I like to binge a series and this one is a long one.
It is slightly different to books I listen to normally.
Things I liked about this book was the characters, narrator and the humour. The plot keep moving and I found I didn’t get bored.
Things that I would have like more would be romance and spice, looking forward to continuing the series.
Vamps, pixies, witches and more
