I probably could give this book more starts, but to be honest I was quite disturbed by it which I suppose it's a compliment to the author. Everything detail was so vivid, I was furious up to the end for what one of characters was going through, and again, hats off to the author for making it feel so real. I was disappointed that the main character never got to tell her story to those she loved the most, and disappointed that I didn't read more of the reconciliation of the kidnapped woman with her family. Also I wasn't impressed by the constant mention if this person and that person coughing and spitting mucus, it's a bit gross to envision.

First DNF of the year, didn't think it would be this soon to be honest!

I snagged this on Amazon because if was free. Thought the concept was really good, it definitely intrigued me! But what made me stop reading this wasn't the story itself, it was the grammar and formatting of the book.

The quotes/people talking weren't separated from the paragraphs. So people's lines were within a big paragraph. And, personally, I have a hard time keeping everything in line when it's set up like that.

And this story takes place in the UK, which I think is cool, but how the author writes the speech of people is hard to read. I'm assuming it's how people in the UK talk, but it sounded like people who didn't know English that well were talking. Words were missing, grammar wasn't right.

I wouldn't feel that way if I knew the character was a foreigner trying to learn a new language because that makes sense to me. I don't know that's just how I feel.

I REALLY REALLY wish I could've gotten into this book because the story seems like SUCH a good one! I'm also giving it 2.5 stars because I think the concept is so good, it just didn't work for me!

"She thought he'd come to saver her. She was wrong."

Spoiler The fact that I'm pretty sure this is just referencing that he was going to save her walking in the rain ruins it for me. I was waiting for a twist, for the husband to come and leave her, anything. There was nothing. I wouldn't have minded if I wasn't expecting a plot twist, but because of this tag line, I was. Honestly, it's like saying "she thought he'd save her from starvation" when all he did is buy her coffee. The modality is too high, and sets too high of an expectation. People are not going to assume that his offering to drive her in the rain is "saving" her.
