this book is just everyone fighting with everyone for no reason for like four hundred pages. and it was usually pinky’s gaunt for being so close-minded. and sure like it was supposed to be inspired by ten things i hate about you but that’s lowkey just offensive to the movie🤨

Welp, I read that in one day! Another super cute and emotional book from Sandhya Menon! If you like YA romance then I recommend this book for sure!

This is the third book in the [b:When Dimple Met Rishi|28458598|When Dimple Met Rishi (Dimple and Rishi, #1)|Sandhya Menon|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1475687488l/28458598._SX50_.jpg|48593860] series, and I was excited to see these two characters from Ashish's story, [b:There's Something About Sweetie|35583527|There's Something About Sweetie (Dimple and Rishi, #2)|Sandhya Menon|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1539796761l/35583527._SY75_.jpg|57017289], getting together here. We don't hear much from the previous characters, with the exception of a few text messages, as Pinky and Samir are in Cape Cod for most of the story. I also found it interesting that the fake part of relationship was never revealed to the parents, and Pinky's mom's origin story was revealing, but her mom still comes off a little one note. The story alternates between Pinky and Samir's perspectives, which showed the development of their relationship nicely.

Overall I liked this, but the quarrelling got a little old in the second half. Prob still liked it better than from twinkle with love, but Dimple and Sweetie are my top fav Menon books! 3.5 stars

10 Things I Hate About Pinky was one of my most anticipated books of 2020. I liked When Dimple Met Rishi and I absolutely LOVED There's Something About Sweetie (it was one of my favorite books of 2019). We met both of our main characters--Pinky Kumar and Samir Jha--in Sweetie and when I heard it's a hate-to-love and a fake dating trope I already knew it was going to be a good one.
And I was right!
Now, I didn't love it as much as I did Sweetie because that book really pulled at my heart and I related to it on a deep level that I haven't had in a long time. BUT, out of all the three books--Dimple, Sweetie, and Pinky--Pinky was the most funny and entertaining one. I was laughing from start to finish! Pinky and Samir were hilarious! They were funny on their own and I absolutely love their banter. And that whole thing about the possum--that was gold!
Pinky was much more light-hearted than the previous novels, but like the other novels, one of the biggest conflicts was Pinky's contentious relationship with her mom. In this case, her mom sees her as a screw-up and always assumes the worst about Pinky. This had Pinky wanting to show her mom that she's wrong, and hence getting good boy Samir to be her fake boyfriend for the summer after his internship fell through. My fake-dating trope loving heart was much amused and very entertained, and the hate-to-love element (because Pinky and Samir were like oil and water) added some fun banter-y friction and got Pinky and Samir into some funny situations.
I'm giving 10 Things I Hate About Pinky 4 stars because while I was much entertained and I love the characters and the trope and plot, I thought the resolution and how everything tied up was kind of surface level--it didn't have that impact that would hit me emotionally and stay with me after I turned the last page. Also, the story is focused on Pinky and her relationship with her mom, but I would've loved to have gotten Samir and his mom's story because they have an interesting dynamic and a complicated relationship too, and we didn't get anything at all about that.
10 Things I Hate About Pinky was an all-around great time! I had a wonderful time reading it and it kept me entertained all the way through. I'm looking forward to more by Ms. Menon. If you're looking for a fun, rom-com-y YA contemporary, or if you need a funny, romance-y read in between your darker books (because we all need those sometimes), 10 Things I Hate About Pinky would be a great choice.

I liked it. The characters were fun and it was well-written, just sometimes a tad overly dramatic and the miscommunication with the mum was a bit annoying... The whole fake dating trope was once one of my favourites, but actually, I think this was a book where it didn´t make so much sense. I´m talking especially about Pinky´s reason for the relationship.

Listen I live and breath YA romcoms. I make them my personality. But ultimately this book commited the ultimate sin of being boring. I'm sorry. I'm such a Sandya Menon fan, I will not give up just yet

So I was lucky enough to get an e-ARC of this book in exchange for a review, and I enjoyed it! I've loved all of Sandhya Menon's work, and if I'm being completely honest I didn't fall in love with this one this the way I have with the others, but there's something so honest about it that you can't help but like it.
When I heard that we were getting a desi fake dating story, I was immediately intrigued. Of all the tropes, fake dating is probably my favorite. Seeing characters I'd be able to relate to just sweetened the deal.
Samir and Pinky know they don't like each other. But by some twist of fate, Pinky needs a "boyfriend" that her parents will approve of, and Samir needs to convince his helicopter mom that he's actually going to the internship he was planning on doing before his boss disappears before the internship can even start. Obviously, it's convenient for both of them to be fake dating. Pinky gets her parents' approval, Samir gets a place to stay.
Soon though, they start realizing that maybe they actually like each other? The romance aspect of their story has its ups and downs, especially because Pinky's really confused about what she wants. Also they have a butterfly habitat to save. It gets a little wild.
A big part of the story is about Pinky's relationship with her mom. They always seem to butt heads, and Pinky's a bit deadset on the idea that her mother will never approve of anything she does. Which is, again, a large part of the reason she needs Samir to agree to her fake dating plot. But Samir also serves as a buffer. He's willing to call her out when she's being unreasonable, and tries to get her to see her mom's perspective, even if it doesn't always work.
All in all, this was a book that, like all of Menon's books, had a lot of sides to it, and they all arc pretty well. This book may not have had the zing for me, but it was a really fun read and I'm sure it will resonate with others.
