This book made me aware of how sharp words and careless actions can crash a soul. Hanna’s death crushed my heart, she wasn’t dramatic, she was just  screaming for help.

I really like the way Clay and Hannah’s words were interwoven, rather than separate chapters. I read it in a few hours and whilst I think each chapter had just the right amount of information/length, I would’ve have liked some of the characters to be delved in to a bit more. It was a very dark topic but written in a lovely way that didn’t put you in too dark of a hole of emotions. I think it could’ve been written a bit more poetically but I guess that’s part of hearing from the voice of two teenagers. A really uniquely interesting way to write about a taboo and dark topic that hasn’t been done that way before, in a reflective and yet anticipatory way.

Sinceramente mi aspettavo che questo libro non mi sarebbe piaciuto per niente, essendo che avevo visto delle recensioni da 5 e altre da 1.
A me è piaciuto molto nonostante non trattasse temi facili.
Lo consiglio molto e sono felice di avergli dato una possibilità.
Mi è piaciuto molto anche lo switch del font anche se ci ho messo un po’ per abituarmici.

The story was okay. Not my favorite book but it’s not the worst book I’ve read dealing with Mental Health. The characters are pretty surface level and we learn little about them as people (other than the things they did to Hannah).

Clay seems like too perfect of a character and is even admitted to “never hearing anything bad” about him. And Hannah is Clay’s Manic Pixie Dream Girl. We only know other characters based on what Hannah says about them and Clay’s non-insightful opinions of them.

The book overall just made me uncomfortable. Not because of the content. Because it just seemed like a twisted revenge-fantasy of a teenager wanting to get back at those who wronged her. For a book this critically-acclaimed, I hated that. Suicide isn’t revenge. What’s left behind isn’t revenge either. Other than that, Hannah is a realistic portrayal of someone that is thinking about Suicide. There were moments where I used to relate to what she was doing or saying.

The prose is good. It’s pretty fast paced and it keeps you entertained wondering what the next tape/reason will say.

My thoughts around this are too complex to make into a review. What I can say though is that I read this knowing that I would hate it, and I did. Thus, the book has served it's purpose.
