I almost gave up this book in the first a couple of chapter. But it got better after about 20% into it.

The plot line reminded me slightly of Where the Crawdads Sing. Definitely should be trigger warnings for SA. it is a bit heavy at times, but overall a well written book about the pains and traumas of growing up. And how we often sweep traumas under the rug until they are too much for us to handle. I liked the style of writing, and how it alternated between past time lines and present.

...this is really hard to rate...some aspects of it were 5⭐ and some aspects were 3⭐. Really cleverly written character-driven novel that paints a lush picture of the Back Woods of the Cape.

Quick easy read. A page turner. However the storyline was not to my liking.
