3.75...?
I have mixed emotions right now. I think I need to process this for longer, but so far I know I liked the end and that we had waaaay more "equal footing" *wink* *wink*. I'm not sure how I feel about the way the story is built, but overall I liked it.
I think I liked the first one a little more, tho. Idk just yet.

I cannot express how much whiplash I got between the angst and wholesomeness of Cass and Swift.
The writing, character development and just everything about this story is *chef's kiss*, and eventhough I'm sad there's not more, I feel it there was no better way to end it.

This has been one of my absolute favourite stories. I desperately wish for more, for Cas' and Swift's adventures to go on. It's been years since I've finished a series that I wanted to re-read immediately.

The prose was just as good as the first, and this book swirls with angst and longing and self discovery. Unfortunately, the plot falls short. It picks up a month after the first book, and Cas is starting to work through Swift's revealed betrayal. I liked the premise, but it starts out too slow and takes too long to get into, and then it's resolved much too quickly for my liking. I just wish there had been more with the other captain trainees and something other than Cas' self reflection guiding the story.
Spoiler But Santa Elena's death was one of the best deaths I've ever seen. Hellbeast out of nowhere? Fanfuckingtastic. I had to read the whole scene twice.

This is definitely a “it’s me not you” book. I really struggle with certain fantasy and action descriptions and I just couldn’t really get into it. I appreciate the idea and I’d see this as a movie it just wasn’t for me.
