After unknowingly reading the second book first in this series a few years ago, I finally have made the time to pick up the first book and see where this story began.
"Bared to You" is a darkish romance that follows Eva and Gideon. Eva has had a traumatic sexual past, but she tries to live everyday as fiercely independent as she can. When she meets Gideon, she instantly is attracted to him, but she knows her past may cause a rift between them. Gideon is a massively successful, obscenely wealthy, and all-around great looking guy. He thinks he does not have time for distractions, until he cannot get Eva off his mind.
Holy toxic, broken people. Eva and Gideon both have had a traumatic past and they both have hangups that make it difficult for them to be in a real committed relationship. However, one thing I really respect about them is that they try to work through their pasts so they can be open to each other and honest about why they are so extreme in their behavior with one another. Eva actively goes to therapy, and she continually is trying to be a better person, which is great to see represented in a book. Gideon is also supportive of Eva's seeking professional help, and open to attending therapy together, which is even better to see.
Both of these characters fall fast and hard for one another. I did think they became very serious very quickly, but I do not think I hated it..? I can see the raw emotion they have for one another, and their chemistry is absolutely undeniable. I normally like to see characters have a little more of a slow burn, but Gideon and Eva cannot seem to keep their hands off of each other.
The smut in this book is frequent and explicit, so if that is what you are looking for, look no farther. I also appreciated how consensual everything was in this book.
I will definitely be continuing in this series.
