This is a book that’s been on my shelf for a long time, I’m glad I finally got around to it. This book is HEAVY, so please check the content warnings. Sing, Unburied, Sing follows a family with three generations under one roof and the layers of trauma that each of those have faced.

I think that this would be a great read for someone that enjoys taking a deep dive into their books. I’m not one of those people, but I think there is a lot that can be uncovered for those that do.

I loved this book. The threads of the generational story, both the trauma and the gifts, came together beautifully. I loved the alternating POVs as well. This book was moving and sad but ultimately hopeful and healing.

This book is really raw and hard-hitting, and it has about every trigger warning possible. It's a world that many of us who are white and middle-class don't know and have been able to ignore as the faraway south. But the issues that this family faces are solvable, and it's all of our responsibility to change policy to put those social programs in place. This book is also a great anti-"classic literature" example - it's lyrical and winding and shows that there is not one way to write.

Probably the best climax and ending I've read in a novel before. Incredibly introspective and reflective.
