“Tradition must go on, a legacy must be left.” -Between the Trees

Women of Rangeley, Maine keep disappearing. It takes the disappearance of Charity St. James for the police department to take a deeper look into the disappearances. Sasha, Charity’s best friend, is baffled that no one sees what she sees in Cameron St. James, and she is determined to find out what happened to Charity, even if that means throwing herself into the crosshairs. Detective Gonzalez has started to look at all the cases of missing women and thinks he has found a pattern between them and decides to call the FBI for help. Is the secret of the St. James family safe or is everything going to come crashing down?

The first thing that I would like to point out is that this is a sequel to Within These Walls, if you have not read that yet, read that before this one. Between the Trees picks up right where Within These Walls leaves off. This was another page-turner for me, keeping me wanting to know more and more until the very end. This book gave me “Dexter” vibes, except the killer doesn’t kill “bad guys.” Leigh M. Hall continues the thrilling ride of this family of men bred to kill, that goes back generations, all the while avoiding any suspicion from the police. This book was addictive, captivating, haunting, and realistic, catching my attention from the very first page. Once again, Hall leaves you with a cliffhanger, signaling the third book within the serious that I, personally, cannot wait for!

I rate this book 4.5 stars. Something I didn’t mention above was how the author writes from the different characters' points of view, which I like, however, when it came to Bret, I felt as though the thoughts were more of an adult rather than a six-year-old kid. Overall, I loved this book and will continue to read anything put out by Leigh M. Hall.

Content/Trigger Warnings: profanity, kidnapping, murder, disappearances, anxiety, and cheating
