Since reading PERSONAL DEMONS (the first book in the series) back in January, I was really looking forward to the sequel to find out what would happen next with Luc, Frannie, and Gabe. The thing I like most about these books is the way that Lisa Desrochers has built this world with heaven/hell dynamics, rules, and hierarchies and the intriguing characters she's put in these places. Along with that, she infuses sarcasm and humor through the various characters, language, and situations that leave me smiling to myself throughout the entire book. And she definitely knows how to write steamy romances. There is a bit of a love triangle continuing in this book, but Gabe is absent for most of the book, until something happens and Frannie needs him (but I can't tell you what it is-you'll have to read for yourself!).

This time the book is again told through three character's perspectives, but we get Frannie, Luc, and Matt's unique voices in this one. Matt is now Frannie's guardian angel, but since he's so new to the job, we aren't sure if he'll be able to handle it. A new character is introduced in this book, and if you've read any other stories with angels/fallen angels mythology, you may figure out who she really is before the character's in the book do. I actually liked Frannie better in this book than I did in the first one. She had more to do and grew on me. However, in my personal opinion, these books have always been about Luc. I feel it's actually about Luc's journey to find what he really wants after an existence without love or any concrete reason to keep going. He's the ultimate bad boy figure (hello - he's a demon!), who has found someone who is worth giving up his immortal being and turning human for in Frannie. Since that happened in the first book, he's trying to adjust in this book which leads to some entertaining scenes. But in this book again, like in the first, Luc's internal struggle is the part I responded to the most. Yes, there are bigger plot points going on, and yes, Matt's story is intriguing in this book, and yes, Frannie has things to deal with and figure out, but it all goes back to Luc for me.

Lisa writes page-turning books with emotion, entertainment, and action all within the constraints of an overarching storyline about Frannie and the heaven vs. hell battle that will guide the entire series. I'm definitely looking forward to the final book to find out where Luc and Frannie and Gabe all end up (and therefore, the worlds of heaven and hell) especially since the ending of ORIGINAL SIN was shocking and gave a twist that could be a major game-changer for the series - my jaw literally dropped at the end, so be prepared!

Spoilers ahead!

So, it took me a while to get through this one. Mostly, because I had so many Galleys to tend to, but also because the beginning was to slow for me. It didn't keep me in my seat, and that is the one and only reason I'm giving this book only four out of five stars.

I loved Frannie's guardian angel from the second he appeared, he just seemed so sweet and sincere! Well, I knew that couldn't last, but it was nice while it did. Frannie annoyed me at times, with her inability to stay put for more than two seconds, but it didn't make me hate her either. Luc was pretty damn amazing, I think he's a really believable character, stupid guy flaws included. And how gruesome was the scene in Hell where he's more or less ... you know, tortured?

So, Taylor. She's a pretty big part of this novel, and while I admit to not really liking her in the first book and this one, I can't say I'm happy for what happened to her. I probably wouldn't wish this and my worst enemy, and that's saying something because I really REALLY hate my worst enemy.

This book was full of surprises to me personally, because I didn't think it would go the way it did. Also, who wasn't surprised at Frannie's Dad? I did not see that coming at all, nicely played Mrs Desrochers!

I'm looking forward to the sequel, because I really want to know whether Luc and Frannie will get their happy ending, because they definitely deserve one. As does Gabe, even though I don't really like him either ... too bad.

The word epic is not enough to describe how much i loved this book!

In personal Demons we are back in Frannie still beeing in a dangerous situation but having more allies to her side now : Luc, as human, Gabe even that he is leaving (no no dont cry he will return much later) and the return of a familiar face her brother Matt.

It all begins when a new character called Lili (sounds familiar?) comes and stay to the appartment next to Luc. At the same time that Gabe left (you will get your answer later) leaving Matt as Frannies guarding angel to be there instead... and then the beautiful ride begins.

I loved Original Sin but Personal Demons was beyond what i was expected : It was awesome!

It has much more details in the surrounding characters such as Frannie's family, her friends, more details about Gabe and Luc relationship, more steamy scenes more action scenes.. How many times i will use more?It was awesome!

I wish i could be able to write more without revealing too much about what happend but i simply cant!

Spoiler section

Spoiler Luc was amazing! If i loved him in the first book i felt in love AGAIN with him. I mean this guy passed from everything you can imagine: he was a demon, he become a human, he become a demon but still everything he thought everything he did was to protect Frannie.. I mean this guy really really really loves her you will feel it too!! Yeah Lili trick him and he cheated on Frannie (what a vivid scene that was really aww!) but c'mon we are talking about Lili(th) here!!

We have alots of Gabe too.. Believe it or not its one of the very rare times that i dont do a confetti party for our Angel ... Yes he left leaving Matt behind (very bad move) because he couldnt be around her.. Yes he returned back and saved her and then even that he claime to be in love in Frannie too (everyone wants Frannie i know...) he wanted Luc to be with her because this is the only way she will be safe and HE will be safe too... I can understand he loves her too with his angelic way i really get that i just.. I was never routing him for our girl sorry!

Matt in the other hand was the suprice for me in this book. I already got the feeling from the first pages (like Luc) that this was a very bad move to put him and i got it all right so when we are reading that Matt is making a deal so he can remove Luc from her sister wasnt that big suprice (at least when i was thinking about it later) And wasnt that shocking that he actually make out with Lili(th).. The thing that got me feeling anger about him is even he was a fallen even that he went to Hell he was still thinking how much he hated Luc how much Luc and his own sister was responsible for what happend to him... Seriously Matt???

And last and not least Frannie.. I didnt really bother me in the first book to be honest but in this one i find me my shelf wondering..The only thing that i really rolled my eyes it was when she and Gabe was in her room... Seriously Frannie??You just broke up with Luc you are broken you, know exactly that if you continue laying your Sway to Gabe he will loose his wings he WILL fall and because of his position he will go directly to Hell but still... You continue ''pushing'' him to do the sex part?I mean FREAKIN SERIOUSLY?

I liked it enough that I want to know how it is finished. I just don't think it was anything amazingly special.

While I do actually like this book, I can't help but feel that Frannie is idiotic. Maybe that's harsh but she would be in so much less danger If she actually did what Luc and Gabe asked her to do for once! Matt made me want to rip my hair out, especially in the last few pages. Some brother he is. Yeah yeah Lili is a succubus but still, I can't help but to be frustrated.

Wow. This book picks up right where Personal Demons left off. It's every bit as suspenseful and twisty.
I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of Personal Demons that I absolutely loved *****stars!!
However, Original Sin has a cliffhanger ending that hovers between feeling like a place holder for the next book and a suspended feeling that left too much unresolved! Which can be a good feeling if worked right it just left me frustrated! Bring on book THREE!

although genre as a Teen read, this one is full of adult language and themes

***This book is a sequel, and the review contains spoilers if you have not read Personal Demons.***

In Original Sin, Lisa Desrochers invokes new facets of the Heaven and Hell mythology and takes her series in a surprising new direction. Characters new and old make an appearance, with varying degrees of success. Luc is sexy and snarky, as always, but his new-found humanity softens his edges and gives him an endearing vulnerability. His and Frannie's relationship is also as hot and heavy as ever, and Desrochers ratchets up the tension without Gabe around to distract our heroine. Their dynamic is winning, as Luc struggles to accept his new limitations and Frannie refuses to let him forget that she can thoroughly thrash him with her Judo moves. The alternating perspectives of the young lovers ring true, with incredibly genuine teenage voices despite the supernatural slant of the story.

Readers will sorely miss Gabe (even Team Luc fans like myself), especially since his replacement, Matt, is maddening. His hypocrisy and selfishness will make readers seethe, as will Frannie's extreme willingness to forgive his interference. Fortunately, this seems to be Desrochers' intention, and she once again proves herself a master at investing readers in her characters, evoking gut-wrenching and heart-pounding emotions. This novel made me laugh, swoon and scream in frustration -- sometimes all at once.

The villain of the piece is magnificently manipulative, macabre and just plain insane. The somewhat obscure mythology is fascinating, and Desrochers adds her own flair to create a unique paranormal romance that stands out among the masses. Like Personal Demons, Original Sin is hormone-driven, playing out like a soap opera with intensity, passion, betrayal and bliss that will leave readers breathless. However, the angst becomes a little overwrought near the end of the novel, when Frannie once again begins the waffling act that exasperated me in book one, and Luc exhibits one of the more frustrating paranormal hero behaviors (you'll see what I mean).

The truth also becomes obvious to the reader midway through the story, making the characters' sluggish realization agonizing and rather forced. Nonetheless, the nonstop drama is gripping and the final twist stunning -- it is nearly impossible not to read ahead. The cliffhanger conclusion will leave readers eager for their third and final taste of this cosmic love story, as both Heaven and Hell hang in the balance.

Note: This novel is recommended for mature teen audiences.
