Oof eked in under the wire. Barely a book but I log it anyway. But ties into my ~New Years resolution~ to read more poetry next year

A cute book about a young boys relationships. It shows how a son can love his mother, a student can love a teacher, hate can turn to love, and how we can surprise ourselves by growing.

Written from the point of view of a student responding in his school journal to his teacher/her lessons/his exposure to poetry. Loved that perspective and how this boys life unfolds entry by entry. Even though it is written as a one-sided story and you never directly hear from the teacher, you can infer the whole scenario by his responses. Fun and unique and well-done.

Sharon Creech is becoming one of my favorite writers. I still haven't read her most famous book, Walk Two Moons, and am thinking I'm going to have to check it out from the library (I bought it and my husband packed it up with our books that are stored in my in-laws basement because he thought it was one I'd already read). This one is sort of a sequel to Love That Dog... so read them in order. Great for teaching poetry.

There was a point in this book where I literally thought, "This book is making me happy. I feel happy right now!"

I know that sounds lame, but that feeling has been in short supply for me.

I can't wait to read the first one in the series!

Pure delight, this book. Also an inspiration -- oh to be as effective and empathetic as this teacher.

The story of Jack continues in this book...still funny and easy to read! Can't wait to meet this author in November at NCTE.

This was a good follow up to Love That Dog.
