What an excellent story! It captured so perfectly what it feels like finding the wrong person at the right time. Or maybe they were the right person for each other after all?
Spoiler I feel like Cleo and Frank needed each other to finally get better. Even though it nearly destroyed them.
I cherished their story so much as well as all the little glimpses we got into the lives of the side characters. I loved each and every one of them (esp. Santiago and Eleanor‘s mum). All the struggles that were portrayed in the book felt so organic and real and I was often moved to tears because I felt so deeply for the characters.

Can totally recommend reading this book, you can just tell how much hard work was put into this story! And the hard work really pays off!

this is the kind of book where you can’t really tell that the characters are becoming your comfort characters until you find yourself looking forward to keep reading it because of them. the book is incredibly character driven and provides a very diverse set of nuanced and delicately crafted people who all, in a sense harmonize (or conflict) with one another. cleo and frank, the protagonists are both lovable and also deeply flawed and traumatized, something you and the characters themselves come to understand throughout the course of the book. what i loved most about it was that the narration style gave you insight into every single person’s thoughts and sentiments (or at least of the most important ones) not only through different POVs separated into different chapters, but also sometimes within the span of a paragraph, switching back and forth in revealing each persons internal dialogue.
the book felt like an anti-romanticizing telltale of several New Yorker lifestyles while also being deeply philosophical and thought provoking

Going to have to agree with others, this book is not worth the hype. Can’t believe it took 7 years to write.

The writing felt so all over the place and I was confused 80% of the time. So many different characters to remember but weren’t really described with much depth, in my opinion.

The whole “edgy and non typical” romance just didn’t work for me. I realise that the book is about that but the characters came across pretentious and boring. Some of the scenes were so random and very odd. Like the sugar glider??

The chapters were so long and felt like they went on forever. Don’t get me started on Eleanor’s chapters, the constant time jumps. I didn’t know who I was reading about and suddenly Frank is interested in her??

I’ve given two stars as it did get more interesting towards the end and I’m happy with frank and cleo’s ending.

Overall, I did struggle to get through this book. I was not excited at all to read it. I feel like I’ve forgotten most of the plot already. It was nearly a dnf but I wanted to finish it.

What an incredibly raw and captivating story. I could NOT put this book down, and it will occupy a space in my mind for a very long time.

I can't put into words a proper review right now, but please know that this book is one that  makes you think and feel in all the best and worst ways. 5 stars!
