THIS IS JUST MY OPINION, NO HATE TO THE AUTHOR OR ANYONE WHO LOVES THIS BOOK! WE ARE ALL ALLOWED TO HAVE INDIVIDUAL IDEAS AND THOUGHT! Thank you, I love you, and lmk what you think đŸ«¶!

P.S. THIS CONTAINS MILD SPOILERS 😅

Cleopatra and Frankenstine by CoCo Mellors

I started this book blindly, I had seen the cover on Lemon8 and loved it. Obviously I added it to my tbr and then soon after bought it on my kindle and omg do I wish this book was free on KIndle Unlimited because I’m kind of annoyed that I paid for it LOL (just me being dramatic about liking some parts but not the book as a whole). Now see I completely understand why Elenor was so crucial to Franks story but we did not need to know that much about her life. She’s boring, her dad died, she’s the reason Frank wanted to be better, all of the important things about her that make Frank fall for her could have easily fit into one maybe two chapters if you’re pushing it. But I didn’t need so many pages about her. Another thing is this book needs a small self harming warning ⚠ fr, I mean the scene isn’t too graphic but the way Frank describes his experience and emotions with Cleo’s incident definitely hit the heart strings if you or anyone you know has been in a self harming situation. AND the way Cleo “processes” her mental situation with an installation for her art show for everyone to see and relive disgusted me and I completely understand the constant shift in Franks words with and about her. Other than that I hope Santiago and Dominique live the happiest and most fulfilled life together đŸ«¶.

This book is the perfect book for me and I loved it.

We follow Cleo and Frank who meet and quickly marry. He's much older, successful and an alcoholic and Cleo is a young English artist who is seduced by his charm. We follow their relationship, their friends, family and life as it changes.

This was beautifully written with so many tender moments. I listened to the audiobook and immediately bought the physical copy after so I can sit and go through tabbing all the moments I want to remember.

As a modern romance story with some very dark themes, this is still easy listening, fun in parts and honestly raw in others. It's been compared to Sally Rooney and I agree but would say this felt well rounded and darker, like the 18 rated version of Conversation with Friends.

An author to keep an eye on in the future for me!

Liked how real the characters felt but i didn't like them very much. Felt a little pretentious at times but maybe that was the point. Maybe would have felt better if the protagonist didn't seem to have so many similarities to the author in physical description and career trajectory. I did enjoy the writing though. Spin-off about Zoe would be cool.
