This would have been quite fun to read as a newspaper serial! I definitely wouldn't have won the contest. Not exactly memorable, but still, a cozy Golden Age read.

I really enjoyed this! I didn't figure things out at all and came out feeling pretty satisfied. There's a brilliant set of characters and I really enjoyed the humour. I was also surprised by how much I ended up liking the romantic plotline. All in all, a really solid read!

So glad I liked this as it adds a whole new backlist to my Golden Age Mystery obsession. Gaping plot holes or not.

The big draw card for me with this one was of course the story around the story - published in serial form with a prize for whoever could solve the mystery; even Agatha Christie couldn’t solve it!!
It was.. fine.
The changing role of the protagonist was quite fun but the dialogue was too stilted and the explanations kind of lacked a real flat for me. It made me appreciate even more what a marvel Christie is - I think I’ll just stick to her golden age mysteries for now.
