3.5/5 Nice to read Cole/William's background but doesn't really develop the story for The Near Witch enough to satisfy.

I don’t know why but I was so bored reading this quick story. The Near Witch got such a good rating from me and this was hard to read after.

SpoilerSo the start of all this mess for him was when he was forced into a coffin and somehow they made it his fault? Bruh

So, I love the parent story of this, but this itself wasn't my favorite. I enjoyed learning his story, but man was it dark and intense. I guess we already knew it would be, but I just didn't love it. It's a super quick read though and was included with my ebook so I liked that!

An interesting prequel to [b:The Near Witch|6931344|The Near Witch (The Near Witch, #1)|Victoria Schwab|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1299080471l/6931344._SY75_.jpg|7162375] and explaining Cole's background. It is a quick read and gives some extra details behind his upbringing but it doesn't really add much and the characters all seem similar.
