Stunning. This book is about taking back your power and embracing your magic. It’s well-written, interesting, and powerful. The chapters are short, the characters are interesting, and the plot is exciting.

I enjoyed parts of this book. There were some characters who were well fleshed out with clear and understandable motives while others needed more substance. The  plot and world building kept me engaged but the flimsy feeling characters and confusing ending kept it from being 5 stars.

This was a book I've had on my shelves forever, and once I actually got over the hurdle of starting it, I could not put it down. This giant book came with me everywhere and it was very fun to read. I loved Zelie and Amari's chapters, and even Inan after a period. I think the author did the separation of their voices incredibly well and the characters' shifts and growth were developed and lovely to read.

The first 300 pages of this book were great. The came a hundred pages of emotional frenzy between the characters which honestly felt unrealistic and way too quick. I don't think you start completely trusting your deadly enemy with your life, loving him even, within 24 hours of grudgingly working together. Everyone else's emotions were similarly careening all over the place and they were all making out of character stupid decisions. I could have done without the hormonal teenage horniness episode. For the final 100 pages, the book returned to great form. The ending was exciting and suspenseful and I'm eager to see what happens next. The worldbuilding in this book was great throughout.
