I AM PROVIDENCE
3.5 🌟I loved the thrill of this story and the emotional anxiety the three main characters narrative brought. Which made this book such a page turner for me I just needed to know how the journey ends. I really enjoyed how Caroline Kepnes tied in H.P. Lovecraft works into this story as another secondary character that interlinked all the characters together in such a profound way. To be the Beacon of hope in finding answer of their destiny.

Though Kepnes refers to The Dulwich Horror a lot (and I mean a LOT) throughout this book, I couldn’t help but feel as enamoured reading Providence, as I did whilst reading Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, for the very first time. I’ve never read the Lovecraftian inspiration for what Jon goes through, but I am a sucker for tragic and lonely monsters.
This is the second book by Caroline Kepnes that I’ve read this year, and I’m really starting to love her fervent narrative voice; it really puts you inside a character’s head and sets the tone when things get frantic. I love her lack of clichés, and how she writes characters in such a human way. The story is told from three perspectives, and none of them had me rushing to get to another character, so I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The only reason it’s a 4.5/5 and not a 5/5 book is how you have to suspend disbelief at the sci-fi aspects that weren’t really explained... in some ways, it worked, but I like a tidy ending with no loose threads. Still a great book.

Was a tough read. Slow storyline with what felt no real point. I liked the characters but they seemed to go nowhere and do nothing.

dnf. Didn’t enjoy the writing style, felt kind of high school. Got 25% through and I didn’t care about the two characters at all, and there was nothing really about the story to make me pause and ponder.

4 stars - It was great. I loved it.
Innocent people like dark things. It’s not rocket science, it’s that rule of opposites and attraction.
Totally different than her debut novel, “[b:You|20821614|You (You, #1)|Caroline Kepnes|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1411958102s/20821614.jpg|39913517]”, and while I personally prefer the debut, it is rather polarizing and will not suit everyone’s tastes. In contrast, I could see the majority of readers that are interested in a suspenseful mystery with a touch of light science fiction also enjoying this one. There’s just something about her writing that grabs my attention in the first chapter and doesn’t let go of it until the end of the book.

Favorite Quote: You regress when you go home.
First Sentence: I brung Pedro home for Thanksgiving break and tomorrow I have to bring him back to school.

It could have been fantastic but something was missing. Loved the characters, the story fell somewhat flat for me.

For fans of YOU....stay away. I was so excited to hear that Caroline Kepnes had created another book but it was nothing like the YOU books
