📝 This was a fun, quick little rom-com. The book flew by, very easy to get through. It was funny and cute with some spice. I really enjoyed it.

🎧 There was only one female narrator. She did a good job making distinct choices so that it was always clear who was speaking, and the bits that weren't from the FMC's perspective, some of which were male, were still good.

🌶️ 3.5/5 Not quite two explicit full scenes but the bits that were explicit were steamy and well written.

🏳️‍🌈✊ The FMC is Jewish. Her (male) BFF is married to a man. FMC is working class/poor and MMC is rich. I think that's about it as far as diversity goes.

A silly goofy time for all. Very low stakes (ha!), easy to read romcom. Frederick was so down bad for Cassie and the letter writing aspect was very cute.

The kidnapping plot resolved way too quickly and came off as very odd. I'm also docking points for the author saying Saugatuck, MI is on the east coast when that is very much not true.

My Roommate Is a Vampire by Jenna Levine

**SPOILERS**
Writing: 3⭐️/5
For the first few chapters, the writing was actually quite fun. Not only did I find the pacing and the tone perfect, the humour worked well with the content of the novel. After the first few chapters, the writing definitely started to fall off, slowly declining until it felt kind of forced and very predictable.

Characters: 2.75⭐️/5
Besides our main character, Cassie, most of the other characters fall very flat. Reginald definitely had his own personality, but I can’t say that it was consistent or very solid. Frederick, while a very sweet love interest, seemed to take on whatever characteristics the scenes called for, rather than respond in his own way. He felt so fluid that it was hard to keep a good read on him.

Plot: 2.5⭐️/5
Lots of other reviews mention it, and I have to too: the kidnapping plot made absolutely no sense. Not only did it feel completely irrelevant to the rest of the novel, tonally, the arc of this plot made no sense. I can’t believe these ancient, evil, horrific creatures would fall for a silly trick of a faked TikTok video. In my mind, there was no way these awful vampires who have no problem killing wouldn’t have just.. killed Cassie. It doesn’t make sense.

Who Should Read This Book?
Readers looking for a fun read; readers who like vampire romances; those looking for a light read with lower stakes;

Content Warnings?
Blood, kidnapping, toxic parents, toxic relationships, abuse, murder, death, confinement, sexual content

Post-Reading Rating:  3⭐️/5
It was definitely a fun read, but the ending fell VERY flat for me.

Final Rating: 2.75⭐️/5 (2.81)

I can't believe I waited this long to read this book it was absolutely phenomenal. Between The Buffy references and his very special magical power that was just so adorable. Sweet and very very funny. With a dash of spice. I highly recommend it.

This book was absolutely delightful! I'm not sure if I've ever falling love with a character that doesn't have a POV as I've fallen in love with Frederick. This book had me laughing out loud so many times that I was glad to be home alone, and I devoured it in one day.

This one is DEFINITELY going in my favorites of all time list!!

I was very glad no third act breakup happened. I LOVE it when books skip this cliché because it is always unbearable to read.

The kidnapping at the end of the book felt a little too easy to solve. I feel like I should take off 0.25 for that, BUT I didn't really mind that it was fast.

Was this cliché? Yes. Was it contrived? Yes. Was it cheesy? Yes, and I enjoyed every slice of cheese this book had to offer. It's like a Disney Channel Original Movie that's aged 20+ years and includes a spicy scene. There is minimal angst, the smallest of stakes, several worldbuilding questions left unanswered, and just a dab of spookiness. The author clearly likes their vampires as clean and bloodless as possible, and loves Chicago. The audiobook narrator did a good job, a middle area between reading totally flatly and injecting personality to the text.

If you're a True Blood, Angel, or Interview with the Vampire fan this book is NOT for you. This is a sweet funny romance.  Frederick is a nice vampire that prefers his blood to come from a bag instead of a body. I liked the characters.  Cassie is a struggling artist who needs a place to stay, so she rents a room from Frederick.  Some of the banter between Cassie and Frederick frustrated me and I didn't like how the secondary  plot was executed.  It needed more development. Overall a cute romance!

can clearly tell the book is written by a millennial (derogatory). the humor was corny and the romance unbelievable. the only thing that saved the text was the amur being decent. truly wish this concept wasn’t a romance and just purely a setup for a comedy book. also i do not think the book will age well. soon we will forget about tiktok and future readers are gonna be like huh?
