First and most importantly, this is not a romance. This is a story about domestic abuse and violence.

While I think that the story was fair, I do want to say that the fact that Ryle is not behind bars at the end of this book is only perpetuating the idea that his actions are excusable. Anything less than his being punished for his actions is teaching young men and women that this behavior is okay. That said, I understand that that is not the reality we live in and that may be what the author was getting at.

I understand why this book is popular - it's a fast read and has an emotional impact. But readers should look at content warnings before diving in and should understand that this is not a romance and should not be regarded as an example of what we want to see in the real world.

Aside from the fact that this book is horribly written, and hurt my brain to read, it glorifies domestic violence. So much energy was put into writing the story so that the main character, Lily, would seem best suited with the man who was literally abusing her.
