Genuinely had no idea how popular this book was until i saw the reviews, literally never heard of it.

But speaking of reviews i don't find the book as strange as the reception to it. People feel so strongly about what i found was kinda mediocre. Not nearly offensive enough to warrant such strong hate nor good enough to enchant THIS many people.

Anyways you should all read misery by Steven king. And i'd like to nominate delta of Venus as 'the incest book' because this book is wildly underserving of such a heavy title.

I did not expect to like this book- I mostly read it out of curiosity because of its reputation- but between Cathy as an honestly very likable narrator and watching the cycle of generational trauma unfold in front of my eyes I was taken pretty quickly.

While most people can’t say their childhood trauma reached this level, many people can admit that their parents or other relatives/ancestors left some mark on them that they’ve never been able to rid themselves of despite their best efforts. Some damage in childhood or adolescence that’s left a lasting mark, often left on the parent by their guardian in some form only to be passed down to you. Reading this felt like a study of that blown up to its extremes.

Books rarely make me cry, but this one did. And that’s a pretty solid endorsement from me.
