This board book adaptation of The Garden, the Curtain, and the Cross simplifies the original book's contents, making it accessible to younger children. The book features the same illustrations from Catalina Echeverri, but is several pages shorter and has less text per page. Although I do not own the original book and cannot make a direct comparison, I know that there were often multiple sentences per page, and in this board book, each page typically includes one to three sentences condensed from the longer work. However, even though this book is significantly shorter, it still feels complete, without any gaps in the narrative or abrupt transitions.

This smooth, seamless book briefly covers the gospel story, addressing creation, the fall, and God's presence in the temple, and Jesus's arrival, obedience to God, death, resurrection, and ascension to heaven. The book concludes with the message that because Jesus has taken our sin away, we can be friends with God and one day live with Him forever. The book does not address the process of repentance and faith, but presents the story arc of the gospel in a way that small children can understand.

Families who already own the full-length book may not feel a need to pursue this adaptation, but it is a great way to get the concepts and story into little hands, and the brief book can hold a younger child's attention. This board book would be a great pick for a church nursery, especially since most Christian board books are very simplistic in nature and convey individual concepts or stories, instead of covering the arc of Scripture. This book is a gorgeously illustrated, vibrant option for little children that adults can enjoy reading to them again and again.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
