I guess this was a good conclusion to the story. The action feels almost nonstop, in a way that I feel diminishes the impact to some of these big moments. I think I am satisfied with the ending.
SpoilerI didn’t like how ~love~ was the motivation, answer, and excuse to most character’s motivations in this one. Our main antagonist has at least one monologue where he insists “love” is useless. This drives our main characters to cite it as the reason for everything. And it just feels a little …silly?

The production of this audiobook was well done, but I enjoyed it a bit less than the first book because a lot of the back and forth between love interests continued, while I wanted to know more about the world, the magic, the history, etc.

As far as a second book goes this was both a let down and hard to read. The characters fell apart and a lot of the plot devices used werent necessary? Im just disappointed after how amazing the first book was.

Had this been a standalone it would have been meh to okay.

Loved the duology. However, a couple of things bothered me. One of them was that Xingyin seemed to victimize herself too much. I get it nothing was her fault, but the way the narrative was presented it seemed a bit too much. She also seemed unsure to me. When it came to her fight or self-worth, she was so sure. But when it came to love or trusting people, she kept on doubting. I loved everything in the book except her character. Also the conclusion for Liwei stayed unsatisfied.

quite a satisfying end that also leaves room for more (perhaps?) or interpretation :)
