Read for book club. I don't know that I would have finished it otherwise. Was ok, but not on my list of favorites this year.

I held it together in this book, even until the very end. But it was VERY VERY close to an epic cry fest. The story is so true with real friendship and you go through the bad, the terrible and even worse together. And just because you're best friends doesn't mean you always have to love them. I would recommend this highly to any woman that needs a good story of family and friends.

boy, if there’s one thing kristin hannah does, it’s make me cry! although she has moved into much more elegant, deep, and historical novels, these earlier “low stakes” fiction books will always have a place in my heart. no matter how archetypal the character, plot line, or detail may be, the book somehow still feels complicated in its own way. very fast read, and very enjoyable.

"TullyandKate" The bond of two women is explored in this novel, the hurt loss and of course love that comes along with it is explored through decades. I didn't know I needed to read this novel until I read it. It reminded me to cherish the relationships that I have with the incredible women in my own life and despite the fact that we might not always be on the same path, we can still support one another and be each other's family. I laughed and cried while reading this novel. I also really appreciated that it explored the choices women make between marriage, children, career, and even their own dreams and aspirations as they balance the needs of others in their life. So much pressure is put on women to do it all. I loved that there was a childfree character in this novel, one with some regrets but also in a much more real way a sense of fulfillment in her career and freedom of choice. The other character who had a family also had a sense of fulfillment but both women lived with some regret of choice and learned they could not do it all. I think that is an important lesson within this story that we can't do it all but we have to do what makes us happy, regret will come in any choice we make.

Please read this book! The story between these women is a slice of life, there is a reason it has a sequel. This book meant so much to me that I can’t bring myself to watch the show, when the trailer disappointed me greatly.
