I've become a marie Antoinette fan in the last year and I rlly loved this take on her story. I always like seeing her portrayed as a teen, especially since she literally was a teen when she became queen. I feel like a lot of ppl look at her earliest years as though she was an adult during her entire reign and disregard how her youth played a role in the queen she would become. Tbh, im kind of an apologist of hers.
I thought that the way her and louis' relationship was written was so so sweet and real. I loved their dynamic so much.
The futuristic sci-fi element was actually something I rlly enjoyed. I've never had great experiences with sci-fi books, they're just not my thing, but this novel was the perfect blend of sci-fi and contemporary for me so it worked out great.
I totally recommend this. Long live the queen

definitely an interesting book,, i enjoyed the characters, but only really got into the plot around halfway through. the ending had me on the edge of my seat and even though i knew what was going to happen the author made me feel so hopeful. a really good read if you’re into retellings.

Maria is a hugely popular social media influencer. As well as Princess of the Austro lands. An arranged marriage to a Franc Prince is just the start of changes she's about to face. A complex web of deceit keeps her handcuffed as she tries to fight for her people. A struggle that only becomes harder when she learns the truth of how people are living, and how deeply she's been betrayed.
I loved this book; a cyberpunk retelling of historical events. The futurization of language is peak, helping to flesh out this dystopian world. Nuanced characters and steady plot progression show a deft touch.
A remarkable debut. I can't wait to see what Ally writes next!

So good! 6/5 stars! Dahlin is excellent at dialogue and human connection. I was so moved and felt deeply connected with Marie Antoinett, I was so worried about the ending because ya know history...
I ugly cried in the scenes leading up to the end. My heart swelled and I felt for Marie Antoinett being an outsider in a new kingdom.
I definitely want to check out more historical stuff about Marie Antoinett now!
