I would've liked to have seen more of the immediate fallout of the virus spreading and the general population realising what happened. How did everyone know trans women started the virus? I wanna know!!
Torrey Peters has written a very compelling concept here and if she ever revisited this world I would be super interested to see what she could do. Still enjoyed this read and would recommend. I've gotta read Detransition, Baby soon now.

I find this a tricky one to review because while generally, the questions of my emotional response to a work, how I would recommend it to others, and whether I will want to re-read the work are closely linked, this is not the case here. I had an emotional response to this that's definitely linked to my own experiences of queerness and gender, and I don't quite know how to account for that. I certainly don't want to litigate it in a book review.
Therefore, on to the structure: I think the jumping narrative wouldn't have worked on the scale of a novel, but for 70 propulsive pages, it was great. The prose was fine if not beautiful, the science fine enough to not break suspension of disbelief, and the characterisations well painted and incisive.
I'd also note that this felt more like a story about the relationship between two characters than it felt like a real world-building effort of what a world would look like where everybody had to choose their hormones. Certainly some interesting ideas, but maybe this was just too short to give a fully fleshed out world.

enjoyed the time jumping format but ultimately wished it had been longer, the post-contagion world expanded
