This book is really well-written. Shannon Hale is good at using few words to tell a whole lot, so it never feels long-winded or slow. The development of Miri’s character in this book is believable and satisfying, and the development of the world and the mountain girls’ connection with linder is masterful. It makes me want to read the first book again!
All the characters are believable and interesting, and Miri is doing her best in a situation she’s never encountered before. I really believed in her and I was not disappointed.
The ending could have been a little more complex, but this is a lighthearted children’s book, so tbh I’m glad it wasn’t.
There’s never any forced drama and the
love triangle
is done well and doesn’t frustrate me. So many books do a bad job at that and it lowkey makes me want to throw away all my books and give up reading lol, but this book does it well. And it’s really a minor plot point anyway so if you don’t like it then it’s understated enough you can just ignore it for the most part.
