had very low expectations for this and it honestly wasn’t as bad as i was expecting but i did feel like it could’ve been like 300 pages shorter. also definitely the worst book in the series but i still enjoyed it!

WOW!!!!!!

i absolutely loved this book. it was interesting (and so weird!) seeing simon and penny split up - but it worked for this book. they were both off trying to solve some sort of problem that isn’t theirs to solve, which is literally their thing. baz is one of my favorite book characters of all time and i adored him in this book. i also love that shepard joined the gang back home, and that even though agatha wasn’t involved with smith, she was still included and in such an important way! (and the introduction of niamh? PERFECT!)

i really liked the ending. i wish something had happened that didn’t (i’m not gonna spoil it!), but i’m still really happy with the ending. simon got closure and that’s what i wanted for him this entire series. i love him and all these characters and i’m so sad that the carry on series is over. any way the wind blows is not only the perfect ending to the song it came from, but also to this series.

tbh i didn’t really like the first third of this book.It was super slow and like what the hell was going on in the beginning with all the ghosting and wishy washy feelings bruh? Like Simon going through his little emo phase and moving out, ditching his friends, and breaking up with Baz only for him to turn around the very next day and have a sudden change of heart? talk about whiplash.

I guess my biggest critique is that I don’t really think this book or even the second book really needed to exist. The first book in this trilogy was phenomenal and had a very entertaining and compelling story that, if i remember correctly, ended pretty neatly.

With that being said, once simon went back to baz and decided that he was gonna actually give their relationship a try and put in effort to be better instead of giving up before anything’s even started, I began to enjoy the book a bit more. As always, Rainbow Rowell writes amazing characters and dialogue and Baz and Simon and Penny and Shepherd really saved the story for me. Agatha…well let’s be real, i haven’t particularly liked agatha in any of the books and this one’s not really any different. But I did enjoy seeing her relationship bloom with Neve and that she kinda found her purpose/calling in life.

I also really liked simons point of view as he struggled to figure out what his new life as a normal was about?? how to be in a relationship?? idk really how to describe it but basically whenever he would freak out and ask “is this what people do?” idk it’s not that i really strongly relate to that inner struggle going on for Simon but damn if that didn’t make me FEEL something.

Also, the spice 😏 it wasn’t super graphic or anything but goddamn. because we know simon and baz’ history together and idk we just know them as characters so well and you can just feel their chemistry idk ugh i can’t. the spice was top tier
