I absolutely love fairy tale retellings, especially ones with some steam. I really enjoyed this book. I thought the way that the author incorporated magic and the different fantasy races to be unique for a retelling like this. I wasn’t sure at first if I was going to like Maleath, but she grew on me. I do wish that the author had more of a lead up to the main relationship. I felt like Maleath’s intentions were obvious, but, up until they kissed, I couldn’t tell what Ash was feeling. A slow burn would have been preferable to me. I am curious at how the rest of the series is going to play out and am looking forward to learning more about this world.
