absolutely fascinating memoir. Dr Shepherd has been involved in managing the aftermath of so many criminal cases and mass disasters throughout his career and still holds empathy and respect for all of the victims. Truly moving read.

This was a really interesting read and I loved the attention and care that was given to each case. Shepherd was also very open and honest about his experience with PTSD, including noting that it wasn't tied to a specific case, just to the experience of being a pathologist in general. I could have used a little less of his personal life, but I do get why it was included. This was a great read that really covered an interesting period in the UK's history through the lens of a forensic pathologist, which was definitely a unique perspective.

A follow up from reading Beyond The Tape by Dr Marie Cassidy last year. A fascinating book that captivated me from the get go, and the more reflective tone and focus on Dr Shepherd's mental health was an interesting perspective to pair alongside the clinical case studies.
