My first DNF of the year :/ Not too bad considering it's October, but still, blah.

I tried. I really did. But 150 pages in and I'm still bored to tears and this is supposed to be a thriller? Ugh.

I feel like maybe this could have been something good but the author over explained EVERYTHING. During scenes that were supposed to be "scary" and thrilling I ended up just rolling my eyes and going "really?"

The main character and his Scooby Doo gang are flat and dull. I couldn't care less about any of them. I am not invested in this story at all and I'm not going to slog through another 450 pages to be bored to death. I have other books to read.

I was so bored by the 25% mark. I wanted to get into this because I heard such high reviews of this, but I couldn’t get into it.

Well written book about a disgraced journalist named McGrath trying to recover his personal life, as well as his professional life. The story is centered around Stanislas Cordova, a renown director of horror movies who has a cult-like following. Cordova's daughter, Ashley, commits suicide, which leads McGrath on a journey to find out what exactly happened. There are many twists and turns in the plot, as well as lots of interesting characters that we meet along the way, which I enjoyed! However, and this actually makes the book about a 3.5 for me, it was TOOOOO long, by about 200 pages in my opinion. I felt like the end just dragged on, and that the author just wanted to describe all of the movies that this fictional director created, rather than wrapping up the story with a solid, cohesive ending. Overall, though a relatively quick and easy read that kept me entertained.

This book was excessively long. 600 pages and it probably could've been told in 300. It seemed like a large portion of the middle was just random crap with nothing really happening. I did finally become more interested in the book after about page 350 but even so the ending was weird and disappointing. There's never really an answer but I guess that's Cordova's thing...bring you to the edge of your seat and leave you hanging. So makes sense that the book would be written that way.
