i was like 6h into this and it wasn't going anywhere except for a really weird love plot between an unlikeable sleaze and the main character. for a book with space aliens this was not very fun

The tale of Cora and the aliens takes a turn for the dark (or darker) as she experiences deep trauma among world changing events that continue to unfold in unexpected ways. I found this second book in the series generally compelling, and at times engrossing, but there were times where I felt it may have dragged a bit and I had to keep pushing my reading forward. Not that it lost my attention frequently or that I didn't want to continue with the story, just that there were moments when I grew a bit distant from what was happening in the book. It's definitely very bleak to read, it doesn't have the sense of adventure that was present throughout the first book, and at times it gets a bit out in the weeds treading a little close to boredom. Still, all in all a fairly solid read, and I'm interested to see where things go in the 3rd book.

I am enjoying this series so far.
The story touches on a lot of themes that are relevant today and the premise is what made me pick it up in the first place.
For me, this started as a slow read, but the last few chapters were especially strong and I am looking forward to the next instalment.
