This brutal and beautiful book rips open one Mexican village to reveal its violence, its inequalities and its toxicity. The propulsive rhythm keeps you firmly in your seat as Melchor forces you to face the depravity, sexual violence, toxic masculinity and poverty. She stares these horrors down and never flinches. There is such mastery here and this is the true antidote to American Dirt. Thank you @janewhaaaat for sending this to me, it’s one of the best books I’ve read in ages.
