I never felt this kind of hate towards a book before. I don't know if I'll read the second book BUT for Warner i think I will 😌

this is definitely a YA Dystopian DUPE! I did really like the plot and the pace of the book- moving around a lot but the locations changes made sense and moved the plot along. Writing was alright- it was very YA which I wished there was less of. But that did make it easier to read. Also the characters seemed a bit flat but this was a lot of world building and conflict setting so more could be to come. Juliette is a fine narrator but she gets annoying at times and she can be a little helpful when it’s not necessary bc she can kill people… like girl you don’t need a man’s to save you! I am really hopeful she comes into her powers more.

I don’t normally say this… but the romance was too much in this book. We did not need the insta love and constant I love yous it was wierd. But I mean they are 17 so IDK.

I feel like a read a lot of pages but not that much happened.

I really don’t know how to feel. Everything feels so sketchy but it was a very quick and easy read so that’s nice! Onto the next!!!

I've been constantly seeing this book on booktok and bookstagram and thought that it was about time I read this. So, I read it. For the first half of the book, it was overly descriptive, very repetitive, and I must admit very much boring. I also read a lot of negative reviews about it so all of my hopes for this book were squashed. I was disappointed in it and thought that maybe the book is really over hyped. But I was totally not expecting the next part. It was full of thrill, adrenaline, fear, survival, and war. And I might add that it was absolutely amazing.

What I observed was that the writing in the first half was really disoriented and confused just like Juliette's mental state. However, it slowly got better and interesting just like how Juliette slowly started to get optimistic.

I already knew that Juliette and Warner were gonna end up together so I wasn't really a fan of Adam. I was, and still am, really skeptical about him. I was starting to warm up to him but his reaction to Aaron's words while they were escaping was really extreme and I think that he's probably hiding something really big.

Many people see Warner as a psycho in this book but I think he was just desperate. Desperate to be loved, and chosen. He never did anything to hurt Juliette (except for that crazy experiment) and if you read the book thoroughly, you'll notice that he was exceptionally gentle and warm towards Juliette. He protected and patiently waited for her. He was just trying to stop Juliette from demeaning herself and see her worth, the worth of her power and abilities. He was trying to show her the harsh reality she was refusing to accept and I think the only problem was that his approach was wrong and that Juliette already had a lot of hatred for him to be able to see the reason behind his actions.

Kenji was a fun character and I was definitely not expecting him to be an undercover.

It felt really good to read that there were other people with the abilities as well.

James was the life and soul of the book. He was just so warm and full of happiness despite his traumas that I wanted to give him a huge hug.

Last, I really believed that this book was overrated and over hyped but if you read all of the book, you'll see all the pieces falling in place.
