Another truly enjoyable piece of JAFF. In fact, so far I've liked each book more than the last one! I thought this was the best of the three I've read.

These books are wonderful. I don’t really enjoy mysteries – in fact, the only ones I can recommend that aren’t declared classics like Dashiell Hammitt, are Jasper Fforde and this author – Carrie Bebris. She captures the wit of the Darcy couple perfectly while maintaining the air of the Regency era. The mysteries always have a touch or more of supernatural to them – and this one is no different. Although, this is the first with a religious tone to it. As with all the books in this series, I can’t recommend them highly enough. They’re the best “sequels” to Pride and Prejudice out there.

It was really good, but I am disappointed that Henry and Catherine aren’t in it more, Catherine not at all. :(

Kind of read. I figured out the antagonist before I hit the halfway mark and spent the next 50 pages pissy at Lizzie and Darcy for not getting it. I skipped to the last 3 chapters and feel fine about that choice.

On the super gothic front, this P&P mystery was much more...calmer, I guess? The supernatural stuff wasn't overt this time; there was a ghost, possibly, but this time it more boiled down to "people can be awful and scheming, and even Lady Catherine de Bourgh has a propensity for pettiness" rather than "a cursed item is wrecking havoc again!" And there was no murder(s) in this one: just Darcy and Elizabeth being falsely accused of theft, and a missing heirloom for them to find.

I have to take issue, though, with the name of their daughter at the end. Lily-Anne?? I don't think they hyphenated first names during the Regency period. And why pick Lily-Anne when you could use Lilyanne or Lillian, the latter of which is derived from either Lily or Elizabeth and has been used in England since the 16th century?

Enjoyed immensely. Couldn't put it down and read it in one day. Made me think about some background stories of some of the Austen characters in a way I never had before, which was so great for a fan such as myself!
