This book is an interesting, well-researched dive into the many things that can go wrong if you aren't careful while exploring America's great wilderness. The content can, at times, be repetitive, but this is less of a reflection on the author and more a function of the types of mistakes that people routinely make in Yellowstone. On the whole, I found it to be informative and interesting, with some warnings that I will definitely keep in mind when I visit the park.

This was a really enjoyable and informative read, and I would highly recommend it for anyone who is ever planning on taking a trip to Yellowstone.
The book is split into two sections based on the types of deaths that have happened in Yellowstone. The first section is all about deaths that occurred due to nature. This includes individuals who wandered into thermal pools (sometimes purposefully, sometimes accidentally, almost always ending tragically) as well as deaths that were caused by wild animals, the climate, falling rocks, falling in general, and even the unusual death by lightning strikes. I did find that the longer chapters sometimes took much more strength to get through - as it turns out, sometimes you can only read about someone freezing to death so many times before it just starts to blur together.
The second section is dedicated to deaths caused by "man" or "manmade" things. This includes chapters on people who have been murdered or killed themselves in the park, stagecoach related deaths, deaths from battles or fights, and a section on people who are missing and presumed dead.
Overall, the book provides a nice level of warning and showcases the danger that nature can have, and would be great preparation for anyone planning on going to the park. I wouldn't read it as I did - straight through, chapter by chapter - as I feel it would be a much more enjoyable read to pick up and read a chapter or two in between other texts.
