I only read a short story of it but I really liked it. It's about a girl named Sara who goes to a boarding school. She spends a few years in the school as a student until she hears her father had lost all his money and died from a flue, and his best friend had run away with all the money so Sara has to become a servant in her own school...

I'm glad I finally read this. It's a story about a fortunate girl that loses everything. Her optimism and positive mindset is something to look up to. She's such a fighter. It's just a wholesome story that inspired a lot of children for sure.

I read this touching children's classic many times. I never tired of Sara Crewe. She is kind-hearted and imaginative. She shows us what it means to be a true princess no matter your status...happy or sad, rich or poor....life is what you make it.

Wholesome story about a girl, who becomes orphan, and has to experience the hardships' of the poor. Good book, even better audiobook, this was a good choice to read now.

• ""Whatever comes," she said, "cannot alter one thing. If I am a princess in rags and tatters, I can be a princess inside. It would be easy to be a princess if I were dressed in cloth of gold, but it is a great deal more of a triumph to be one all the time when no one knows it."" - A Little Princess, Frances Hodgson Burnett.

I read and listened to this whilst I was ill last week and it provided me with so much comfort. I may be an 'adult' but I believe that children's books like this can be read by people of any age and are just as valuable. Sarah's outlook on life and kindness is something beautiful to behold. The book's whole ethos seems to endorse the idea of loving one another and helping those worse off than yourself, even when you're at your lowest. Compassion is throughout the pages. But also, it teaches us how to love ourselves. No matter what situation or circumstances Sarah finds herself in she always carries herself like a princess (or at least her idea of one). I think she reminds readers to also carry ourselves in this way, in the sense that we should take care to look out for those less fortunate and always put our best feet forward when tackling hardships. Respond to cruelty with compassion and dignity, not stoop the our aggressor's level. In practice, that is hard but Sarah reminds us to give it our best go. This is a beautiful children's book, I wish i had read it when I was younger. - C x •

i never read this as a child and i probably would have eaten it up if i had, but it really didn’t hit as an adult.

(and I’m not so sure i would recommend this to actual kids either)
