slightly more Mary sueish characterisation for Enola, but at the same time, it's entertaining and makes me laugh. again, Sherlock and mycroft are closer to how I picture them through the works of Mofftiss, but with a bit more sexist Victorian sentiments thrown in. Seriously, I can totally picture Mark Gatiss as this version of mycroft, because it's basically a Victorian version of his characterisation. It's silly and fun, and doesn't try to take itself too seriously like the Mary Russell novels do.

I absolutely adore this book. It was way better than the first one, for sure. The old Victorian London vibe was set perfectly and the character of Enola had grown so much! I also loved how Sherlock and Enola were trying to outsmart each other. I definitely want to read more from this series!!!

These books are just getting better. For juvenile fiction, they are a little gruesome or at least contain gruesome scenes (near strangulation, for example), but the story is just so compelling and creative. Enola continues to be fierce and, if not quite fearless, very nearly so. I want to be like her and I want my kids to be like her.

I wish Enola were not alone all the time... but, this state is her namesake. She seems awfully lonely, especially in this volume.

Regardless, definitely read these if you're a juv or even YA fan. I'm so psyched to have another great series to recommend to patrons!

Another good installment in the Enola Holmes series. I've been reading this series to discuss with my 10 year old. My daughter has decided she loves historical fiction as long as it doesn't revolve around falling in love with a cute boy. lol, sounds good to me.
