I have never read much poetry, but this one appealed to me. In part because I'm in a bee craze and digging out everything related to bees, but also because of the journal aspect. I really enjoyed how all poems were related to the hive and beekeeping, and it was fascinating to see the development throughout the months and seasons.

I think it made it that much better that the author was new to beekeeping. You sense a curiosity and a fascination in his approach to the subject, and that rouses some of that in you as well.

Some of the poems didn't speak to me as much, hence 4 stars instead of 5. But overall it was a good and interesting reading experience, though you'd probably have to be at least slightly interested in bees to enjoy it as much as I did!

a beautiful collection of poetry featured in the 'Mood Busters' campaign at my local library. I was in awe of the language... such a beautiful and profound portrayal of beekeeping and a fantastic example of nature writing.

real bucolic hours..... all the words are lovely but i started to agree w the reviews saying there’s no emotion in them. then i got to the end and! ‘10th february: dismantling the comb’ Destroyed Me. then right at the very end ‘3rd july: gift’ was such a perfect ending oh yes!!! like i wish that level of Good was sustained throughout the book but. those two poems (and a few others) really do make up for the less-good rest of the book.
