I think the movies would have been better if they kept Thorins harp.
I struggled with the writting style (I am also dyslexic) so it took me until Golums appearance to be invested. Riddles in the Dark was amazing, would be my 2nd favourite chapter. My favourite part would be the battle at the end, minus Thorins tantrum.
The battle of the Five Armies was written over 5 pages in a much more engaging and interesting way than what the movies decided to go with.
This was my first read through and I loved it, minus my dyslexic butt not getting to grips with the story at certain points, which a reread would be beneficial.

Having watched the film growing up I was so excited to read this book.
It exceeded expectations, was so descriptive, I really felt immersed in the journey as it was really brought to light.
The only thing I found was that it had a slightly slow start and took a while for me to really delve into the book but on the whole it really is an amazing book (and much less overwhelming than some of the hobbit books due to its smaller size).

The hobbit is a classically written tale about a fun character going on an adventure with many tribulations and events, this novel isn’t unpleasant in any sense but it also isn’t extraordinary in any sense. It can feel more like a list of events happening to a list of characters rather than tribulations happening to people. Your care of the characters is minimal till the end of the story, there are so many characters and you have no reason to feel attached to any of them. The writing is a saving grace, its orator has a sense of humor and the writing is playful and witty, though most of the story is dull the ending is exciting and wraps the story up nicely and is a moment when you finally can connect with the characters.  6/10

Why did it take me so long to get into these books? They’re so WARM and COZY. They’re just folks gallivanting about on adventures!! Love that for them!! It’s so much Pure Storytelling, and I’m HERE for it.

Quite possibly the best, and certainly my favourite, presentation of this classic that I have seen. Serkis is an incredible performer and proves this many times over, not just in his Gollum scenes. Incredibly accessible, especially for readers approaching the books after watching the films.
