interesting insights into behavioural economics, great for provoking new perspectives and relying more on psychology rather than purely logical economic theories of behaviour

βIt is much easier to be fired for being illogical than it is for being unimaginative. The fatal issue is that logic always gets you to exactly the same place as your competitors.β
A book written with panache and a passion for imaginative problem solving.

Interesting approach and perspective; It could be a bit more concise, but it's still an outlier in a sea of underwhelming branding books.
Must read if you're in branding β the sooner you read it, the more pointless other books will appear.

Yes, this is one of those everything-you-think-you-know-is-wrong books, but it's worth a listen. The author (who is also a very entertaining narrator) gives lots of examples of counterintuitive thinking leading to success, but also makes it very clear what a risky way it is of operating.

rory's ideas are great, but this is a terrible read. a bit of *alchemy* from an editor would've gone a long way.

There are interesting stories and examples in this book. However, Rory fell for some urban myths which makes me wonder how well he researched his examples. For instance, he tells the famous tale that Betty Crocker sold more cake mixes after they let house wives add an egg to the mix to not feel guilty. There's actually a snopes article on how this is not the (full) truth.
Some takeaways:
- the opposite of a good idea might be another good idea
- leave room (time/energy) to think and come up with unconventional solutions
- ask basic questions and challenge even the most basic assumptions

This is the one of the books I will refer back after "You-Know-What" has happened.
